Red is the color associated with danger. For utility tape indicating a danger, then, it only makes sense that the tape is colored red. For example, many types of danger utility tape are designed for asbestos safety. Likewise, the red utility tape listed for asbestos is used to indicate a serious and specific hazard, one that warrants more than a caution.
